[Nairobi, August 22, 2025] Daystar University Choir staged an impressive performance in this year’s 97th Kenya Music Festival held at Meru Teachers’ Training College, Meru County, from August 2 - 14, 2025.
The theme of this year’s festivals was Creative Economy Through Artistic Expression for Sustainable Development.
Daystar University Choir scooped seven (7) 1st positions, seven (7) 2nd positions and four (4) 3rd positions in several categories that included Choir Pieces, Western Solos, African Solos, Choral Verse, and Public Speaking.
Overall, the University Choir brought home 27 placements that included trophies, awards and certificates including 4th to 9th positions in other categories.
“Our students showcased musical versatility and artistic excellence across both African and Western traditions, with performances ranging from sacred choral works and gospel pieces to classical solos, instrumentals, and multilingual verse,” said an elated Dr. Regina Gachari, the HOD, Department of Language and Performing Arts.
The teams and individuals earned recognition for multiple top positions, including several 1st and 2nd places in violin, recorder, non-classical guitar, African gospel, Kiswahili verse, and choral pieces in both African and European languages.
The highlight of the festival was the Choral Verse category, which secured Daystar University three first places and three second places, affirming our prowess in performance, language, and interpretation.
These achievements reflect not only the talent and dedication of our students but also the commitment of our faculty and trainers who guided the students.
The Kenya Music Festival continues to provide a vital platform for Daystar University to showcase its musical excellence, cultural diversity, and academic strength in the performing arts.
